The syllabus for the NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Categories) Undergraduate Level Examination, conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), is designed to assess a candidate’s general aptitude and suitability for various clerical and entry-level posts in Indian Railways. The examination is primarily divided into three key sections: General Awareness, Mathematics, and General Intelligence and Reasoning. The General Awareness section holds significant weight and covers a wide range of topics such as current events of national and international importance, basic science, Indian history and culture, Indian polity and constitution, geography, economics, and general scientific and technological developments. It also includes awareness related to the Indian Railways and government schemes. The Mathematics section aims to evaluate the candidate’s numerical ability and includes fundamental topics like number systems, decimals, fractions, ratios, percentages, profit and loss, time and work, time, speed and distance, simple and compound interest, geometry, and basic algebra. These topics require a strong understanding of basic arithmetic operations and problem-solving techniques. The General Intelligence and Reasoning section tests logical thinking and analytical skills, including topics such as analogies, coding-decoding, puzzles, syllogism, decision making, series completion, direction sense, and statement-assumption questions. Both the CBT Stage 1 and Stage 2 follow this syllabus, with the second stage being more in-depth in terms of question complexity. Additionally, based on the post applied for, candidates may have to take a Typing Skill Test or a Computer-Based Aptitude Test, followed by Document Verification and a Medical Examination. Overall, the NTPC undergraduate syllabus emphasizes a balanced approach, requiring candidates to prepare comprehensively across academic knowledge, current affairs, and reasoning abilities to perform well in the examination.
